EC–004: The Role of Language in Fostering Literacy

Do you want to know what you can do better to prepare children for Kindergarten? Research supports that the size of a child’s vocabulary upon entering Kindergarten is a strong predictor of how easily he/she learns to read with formal instruction. This workshop is recommended for parents/care givers, teachers, childcare staff and anyone who is involved with preschoolers (birth – 5 years of age). Participants will:

  • Experience an overview of instructional language activities
  • Learn skill building in language development
  • Understand theories of language development that provide creative “oral language” classroom/home learning opportunities
  • Interact in activities that provide an understanding on the progress of language for the early learner
